Below are some examples of my work, with accompanying descriptions of each project. These projects were selected as especially relevant to the Space Science Institute.
In graduate school, I was an intern at the Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, Vermont. I helped to install two exhibitions: Beguiled by the Wild: The Art of Charley Harper and Cartoonists’ Take on Charley Harper: Graphic Work from The Center for Cartoon Studies. The below images are printed “flip cards” I designed for a children’s activity, based on abstractions found in Harper’s artwork.
The Hanford Made film provides a broad overview of the Manhattan Project with an emphasis on plutonium production at Hanford during the Manhattan Project. It was produced by the Manhattan Project National Historical Park (National Park Service), in coordination with the B Reactor Museum Association. I was responsible for the graphic design and animation seen throughout the film.
The below video was an offshoot from the larger Hanford Made film, and developed exclusively for the National Park Service’s classroom outreach.
The content of this video was also adapted into an educational slideshow format, as shown below. This version could be printed and distributed, making it ideal for classroom use.
Below is a separate-but-related project for the Manhattan Project National Historical Park’s Hanford Unit. This poster was part of an exhibit on Nuclear Safety at the Hanford REACH Museum, which used imagery from The Simpsons to illustrate public perceptions of the nuclear industry. I was commissioned to add the drawing of Homer Simpson (a power-plant employee), who is leaning against a cask of radioactive waste.
Below are images from My Friend Salt, a picture book I illustrated for the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance.
Here are some images from Phoenix: The Ford Pinto Story, a true-to-life account of the Pinto’s development. This book introduces the casual reader to automotive engineering concepts, tort law, and federal safety regulations.
Here are images from my self-published children’s book, Snake Rapunzel.
